Kwojo and I were both so excited for Ivy to see her new bike on Christmas morning, but she was barely interested! She commented that it was a bike, handled it a bit but didn't want to get on, and then wandered off with her breakfast! She was with us when we bought it, and tried one out in the shop - she wanted to get on it without prompting, and rode around the shop without help, then was sad to have to leave it there. So either she is punishing us for making her wait so long (two months!) or our mistake was in not wrapping it.
We went to Steph's for breakfast, it was so refreshing to walk there (though not a pretty walk at all) after two days of getting in and out of the car and hardly walking at all!
Ivy didn't quite get what her pots and pans were for at first, so we did some fake cooking in them. We were enthusiastically moving the invisible food around in the pan with the spatula and telling her what we were cooking, and she just looked at us with an expression that said "Poor you, your brain has broken". Once she found some actual objects to cook, then she got it. And was busy putting them in, lid on, lid off, object in another pan, lid on, etc.
We went to the park, and Ivy threw her head back and grinned! It was a good day for the park, sunny and not too cold.
We played and climbed and bounced.
After a nap at home, we went to my parents for the evening and to be fed. They gave Ivy and table and chairs, which they had the sense to hide under a blanket so that Ivy felt like she was actually opening something! And my brother gave her a plastercine set with little cookie cutters, so that was pretty much our evening sorted. When she'd push down hard on the cookie cutters, her little legs would lift up too!
At bedtime, I asked Ivy what her new bear is called. She "hmm"ed, looked at the label, and then declared "Sleepsuit. Sleepsuit87" I love toddlers.

Advent
We are lucky enough to have two advent calenders in this house, one reindeer with drawers from my Mum, and one sewn pocket bunting by me. And they are both for all of us! each day is a little something for someone, but not for everyone everyday. We decided that we didn't want Christmas (and advent) to be about Ivy getting lots of presents, so hopefully she will realise that it is about everyone else as well.
Yesterday in our bunting calender Ivy opened her first little gift. She was cautious at first, and kept giving it to me to open, so I showed her how if she slips her finger under the paper then she can tear it open. So she shredded it! She was very pleased with her spoon and fork set.
And this morning the drawer with a number 3 on it contained a little something for Ivy. Two felt balls! Yesterdays had a mysterious tea bag for Kwojo, and the day before a little chocolate for me.
We also watered the water. Fill the watering can from box of rain water, pour into box. And repeat. Also, Ivy thinks that all watering cans are called elephants.

Hello December!
I'm pretty excited about Christmas this year, not just the day, but the whole month of merriment. This morning we started on the first and second of our Festive Fayre and Market visiting. We even spotted Father Christmas on his lunch break! As we were queing to order our drinks (one white Americano and one Babycino) I asked Ivy if we should get a mince pie "IvyPie!"* which I think means yes. So we had our first mince pie of the season...
And the first of December also marks the countdown to Ivy's second birthday. I now have a 23 month old, wow! I'm going to see if I can do a photo (and blog post) a day for the whole month.
* She also uses this for Babycino -> IvyCino, TildaCino, etc
RolyPoly -> MummyPoly, EmmyPoly, IvyPoly...

The first 10 days
On 2nd December I decided to restart my photo-a-day project in an attempt to get my photo-mojo back and get reacquainted with my camera in preparation for having a tiny person to photograph! I should really have chosen a neater date to start on, last time I started on the 4th January. These photos really reflect how how of practice I am with photo-taking, and also how little I am able to get out and about what with being eight months pregnant and suffering with SPD (pelvic pain). Hopefully the photos will improve even if my mobility won't!
